Aim of the Conference

Historically, pandemics have forced humans to break from past and envision the world afresh. Covid-19 pandemic has been no different. The unprecedented challenges it caused especially to public health, food security and supply chain systems obligated governments and industries to assess the challenges and explore opportunities for building a more resilient, sustainable and inclusive post-pandemic world. A few technologies stood test of the times and demonstrated their efficacy to limit the spread and impact of the Covid-19. Radiation and radioisotopes based technologies were particularly successful during the pandemic for diagnostic purposes in the healthcare, providing sterilized materials to be used for personnel care and hospital

use and effective phytosanitary intervention for smoother global food trade. Besides these, radiation technologies continued to produce advanced materials for automobiles, railways and aerospace industry and providing excellent tools for industrial diagnostics. The envisaged vision of nuclear and radiation technologists of achieving many of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs) related to zero hunger, better healthcare, cleaner environment and efficient industrial processes as identified by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) continued to stimulate adaption of these technologies while mitigating the general concerns related to safety and security of radiation technologies.

The Covid-19 crisis has taught some critical lessons and forced every technologist to ponder over and develop new methodologies for a safer future. It is therefore time to come together again and deliberate on the lessons learnt to chart out a new path and ensure that the expectations from stakeholders are successfully met in years ahead. With this in view, NAARRI has taken the initiative to hold an international conference NICSTAR-2023 during January 9-12, 2023 in India and provide opportunities to all the stakeholders namely R&D personnel in isotopes and radiation technologies, nuclear medicine and healthcare providers, food and agriculture technologists, material scientists, environmental engineers, process engineers, leaders from business, industry and safety regulators to deliberate and provide the obligatory leadership to the community. Keeping in focus the expectations from the conference, it is entitled as Radioisotopes and Radiation Technologies Connecting with Lives, Business and Sustainable Development.
